Q & A 6

Jul 26, 12 Q & A 6

I’ve tried concealing my port wine stain birthmark with concealer and make-up. Now, I am looking at options to remove it permanently. Please give me some advice on how to go about doing it.

Port wine stains are abnormal visible blood vessels and fortunately there are laser therapies that are effective to lighten or even make it disappear. The success of having it removed permanently depends on the complexity of the lesions when the treatment begins. It is best to get it treated as early as possible before the texture of the lesion surface changes. The best option is to seek consultation and treatment from a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Available effective laser includes pulse-dye laser, intense pulse-light (IPL) therapy and even in some cases, CO2 laser.
